Description:
The model is based on a kit from TopFlite, who says: The TopFlite AT-6 is an exellent sport scale model that will do for modelers what its full size counterpart did for thousands of allied pilots during the second world war: train them to fly high performance military aircraft\". The model is originally designed for i.c. engine. However, I wanted to fly electric (of course), and therefore I modified the whole front to accept the AXI motor: The two battery boxes on the backside of the motor/cowl arrangement can be slided into the modified fuselage front as a drawer. The only connection to be done before \"the drawer\" is closed is the connection between the receiver and the speed controller. - This complete unit is kept in position by an in the bottom front part of the fuselage positioned springloade self-locking double pawl, which catches a steel pin in the bottom of each batteri box. - This arrangement means that the flight batteries can be changed without having to remove the wing, a hatch or the canopy. The model was originally powered by a Speed 700 Neodym, a homemade toothed belt gear and 16 cells (8 cells in each batteri box). The change to AXI motor and LiPo batteries has reduced the total flying weight from 4.5 kg. to 3.9 kg., only ! - Now it is a much better model ! Very powerful take off, and rock steady during all flying conditions ! The propelller on the full size plane has a diameter of 2700 mm., and therefore the the prop on the scale 1:7 model should be 386 mm., or 15.2 inches, which is very close to the installed 15 inch Zinger wood-prop. The 2 1/4 inch alu spinner is from TruTurn and specially made for the kit. The 9-cyl. dummy, radial engine is from TopFlite. Robart pneumatic retracts are installed. The pilot and co-pilot are Williams Brother military pilots. The model has split flaps, which makes the model very steady in the landing pattern. The iron-on film is Super Monokote from TopFlite, and the colours matches the colour sheme of a \"US Navy SNJ-3 Instrument Flight Trainer\", very well.
